WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BECOME WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD?
I wanted to be everything. I could never quite choose what I wanted to BE. The most memorable thing I wanted to be was a superhero, and that was only because I knew what I wanted to DO. I wanted to help people. I've spent the greater part of my life trying to figure out how to do just that, and that is why RippedTogether was created.
HOW DID YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY REACT WHEN YOU TOLD THEM YOU WANTED TO BE A DANCER?
My parents were both incredibly supportive, and by the time I had decided to dance, most of my friends had already begun dancing, so they were cool with it.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DANCING/ BEEN AN ACROBAT FOR?
13 years. Started when I was 15 and now Im 28. Crazy how time flies...
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT SO FAR?
Meeting and marrying Angelina Mullins. It sounds cheesy because it is, but she made me want to be a better man. There are few feelings better in the world than letting someone show you where there is work to be done within. She does that for me.
"Try" by Pink is such a powerful song, the production value of the video is stunning, & the choreography is epic... tell us about your experience working with Pink:
Working with Alecia is one of the most humbling experiences I have ever had. Personally or professionally. She gives everything to her audiences, her partners, her band, and her shows. She is a truly talented woman, and has a huge heart. Watching her I learned what is necessary of oneself, to truly give to others.
I must say that your performance with Pink at the AMA's last year is perhaps the best live performance ever, how was it dancing in front of all these music superstars?
First off, thank you. Thats obviously a huge compliment. Second, I have no clue. I was so nervous and the only thing I could think of was being there for and with Alecia. It would have been selfish of me to focus on anything other than our story.
Afterwards though? Sorta had a freak out, what a f^ckin blast!
WHO INSPIRES YOU IN THE INDUSTRY?
There is a PRESIDENT of a fitness company in the fitness world named Cory Gregory. He runs the company MusclePharm. He is one of the hardest working individuals I have ever seen. I haven't yet had the chance to meet him, but Im looking forward to the day our paths cross. I think I could learn a lot from him.
You are also the CEO/Owner of Ripped Together; mind telling us a bit more about this venture?
RippedTogether was a project born out of Angelina and my desire to help others in the best way we knew how. What did we have to offer people that they didn't already have? The answer for us was that we had spent our whole lives training our bodies to be the peak of physical fitness for whatever venture we had set out for. We loved, studied, and understood our bodies and wanted to share that love and understanding with others. It started small, just a few clients here and there, but now RippedTogether has become a community across the country... and the world now..... where people push each other to find the best possible version of themselves. We do all levels of classes, personal training, dance, barre, and mobility. We also have an online branch that is about to get a major overhaul and expansion! We have found that we are in the business of self empowerment more than anything. Our goal is to help people help themselves.
WHAT ASPECTS OF YOUR JOB DO YOU LIKE BEST/ LEAST?
To be honest the work I choose to do isn't really work. I've made conscious decisions in my life to include myself in things I love. There is bound to be monotony, but it can be overwhelmed by the joy of doing what you love.
Take touring for example, the only hard part about touring was being away from my lady and my dogs. I missed them like crazy, the rest is easy and amazing!
RippedTogether can be a very emotionally intense experience. You want to give every part of yourself to each client, because they each matter just as much as the last and the next. Though its never hard to do in the moment, afterwards I find Im quieter for a solid hour or two.
I also write for a mens fashion magazine called ADON. That job is newer but doesn't have any downs, its just really fun to get to write and do photo-shoots every 2 months!
DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE IN TERMS OF FASHION:
I really dig simplicity. I find that basic colors and patterns are iconic for a reason. It's not to say that fashion forward isn't something I appreciate... but give me a classic any day.
My daily is a t-shirt, jeans and boots of some sort.
I rarely wear tennis shoes outside of the gym.
I love being in a suit.
I have a shirt from when I was in 7th grade. I still wear it, even though it has holes all over it.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
Waking up. From there my day is an endless series of possibilities.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SONG AT THE MOMENT, AND OF ALL TIME?
At the moment: Blake Shelton- "Doing What She Likes"
Perfectly describes Ang and my life right now. We work hard all day, so that at night we can just hang out together.
Like I said, I really dig simplicity.
Of all time? Impossible to answer... Different moods called for different songs in my life. Too many have helped me through too much.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIES?
Lethal Weapon. Point Break. Monsters Inc. Toy Story. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 1.... & 2
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST GUILTY PLEASURE?
DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN 5 WORDS?
Happy. Determined. Emotional. Constantly Humbled.
WHICH LIVING PERSON DO YOU ADMIRE MOST?
My father in law. From where he came from to what he created for his family. There is no equal in my life. I look up to this man more than I can explain. He has set a bar that, even now, he continues to raise and that I will chase my whole life, and I dig every minute of it.
WHAT DO YOU MOST VALUE IN PEOPLE?
I don't know... I can't put my finger on it, but when you find your people you just know. Theres no rhyme or reason... but the people that I've been blessed with in my life, the good people, you just know you value them for everything they are, and everything they are not.
NAME 2 THINGS PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU:
I don't always want to workout either.
I eat TONS of food. Like.... a lot. Which is why I have to keep working out so much. Hah!
WHAT IS YOUR MOTTO?
Go to sleep a better man than you were when you woke up.
ANY LAST WORDS?
Thank you for including me in this project. I feel really honored to be a part of it.
