Broad City, Writer for New Girl, Younger...
What did you want to become when you were a child?
That answer always kept changing: bus driver, ice cream man, post office worker but the kind that works at the window -- I was really into working jobs that existed within a small space. Don't ask me to explain it.
How did your family & friends react when you told them you wanted to get into writing & acting?
I don't think anyone ever thought I would do anything else, so it wasn't much of a surprise. I was pretty hammy as a kid.
Who or what inspires you?
Other comedians whose bodies of work I admire.
What aspects of your job do you like best/least?
I love getting paid to be funny -- it's a ridiculous job. But I hate how distinctly subjective the job is, and how little routine and structure it provides when you're going from acting to writing to pitching, from project to project without a very clear trajectory.
What do you believe is the biggest misconception about comedians?
That we're all secretly miserable. MOST of us are, but not all of us.
How do you handle criticism when it comes your way?
Not well. I don't read comments anymore.
How do you bounce back from a defeat?
By trying to do better than whatever lead to me to defeat in the first place.
What makes you happy?
The Howard Stern Show, but only "woke" Howard Stern, post-2009. Not the Stern who threw lunch meat at porn stars.
What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
Long Island Medium. I don't believe in God, but I *do* believe that this lady from Hicksville speaks to ghosts in Heaven or whatever. It's uncanny.
Describe yourself in 5 words:
Ambitious. Tenacious. Loyal. Responsible. Curatorial.
What do you most value in people?
The ability to think of others before yourself, to be considerate.
How do you define success?
Making a living by doing what fills you with joy.
When was the last time you laughed so hard/much that you ended up crying?
Hearing Robin Quivers sing "Chandelier".
What serves as the greatest motivation for you in your daily life?
Peace of mind.
Which person do you admire most?
Name 3 things people don't know about you:
+ I'm terrified of the moon
+ I have excellent handwriting
+ I can't be around balloons
What is your motto?
Share the road.
What do you wish to have see achieved in 2018?
I'd like to do more volunteering.
Any advice for those wanting to get into show business (be it a writer, producer, actor...)?
Find your voice, find what makes you unique and fine tune it so that you will always stand out.
Any last words?
The thing with balloons is that they're ticking time bombs
