Autumn Reeser

September 2015

As a child, what did you dream of becoming when you grew up?

A jockey, a detective, and a dolphin trainer. When I realized that the career of ‘actress' meant I could virtually try out every job available, I was sold and I never looked back.

How did your friends/family react when you told them you wanted to become an actress?

It’s been my passion since the age of 6, so I’ve never known a different life or goal. It’s who I am.

It's been almost a decade since "The O.C", what do you think made the show such a success?

The time was ripe for a teen drama with some teeth!

Why do you think your character Taylor, remains such a fan favorite?

She was an outsider who didn’t apologize for being herself. She was odd, sexual, smart; she loved who she was and didn’t feel compelled to make herself into someone different. Don’t we all aspire to that level of self-confidence?

Who inspires you in the industry?

Amy Poheler & Tina Fey for their humor, honesty and ability to be poignant and political within a comedy setting.

What has been your greatest accomplishment so far:

My two sons.

What aspects of your job do you like best/least?

My least favorite part of my job is the ‘hurry up and wait’ aspect. There is a lot of rushing and a lot of waiting and both can be high-stress situations if you allow them to become so. I’ve been experimenting with meditation and playing guitar on set, as well as being ultra prepared when I arrive, and both of those techniques are helping me balance the stress. The best part of my job is getting to play and do what I love in a team environment. I love how many people it can take to execute even one second of a well-told story on camera; everyone gets to be on their game and I love when a director or showrunner inspires all of us to step up our game. Martin Campbell was one director like that for me, and I’m about to shoot a film with Clint Eastwood, who I imagine will be similarly exciting to work with.

What are some of your favorite books?

What are some of your favorite books?

The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Artist’s Way, The Four Agreements, The Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, The Secret Garden

Name two things that are on your bucket list:

Visiting Taos, New Mexico. Performing on a stage in New York.

What brings you the greatest joy?

The feeling I get when I’m in connection with spirit. It feels like flying. Sometimes it happens in nature, sometimes in performance, sometimes other places...

What is the one thing you wish you had known when you were younger?
Listen to your instincts.

What is your biggest guilty pleasure?

I don’t have guilt or guilty pleasures. If I want a piece of chocolate or a glass of wine or a piece of cheesecake, I have it with full relish and in the awareness of giving a gift to myself.

Describe yourself in 5 words:

What do you most value in people?

What is your motto?

“Stop acting so small. You are the universe in ecstatic motion.” - Rumi

Any advice for those wanting to become actors?

Read every book you can get your hands on and don’t ever stop. If you’re going to be a storyteller, its imperative to have awareness of the possibilities of storytelling.

Any last words?

Thank you, Luc!!! :)
